Personally I am not a bowler, but my husband was, and I am proud that our village has a thriving bowling club with young members. Of course, the tradition in Scotland is for flat greens. Which do you favour?

I took up lawn bowls through my marriage; my father-in-law has played for years, and his son, my brother-in-law, following his emigration, is now team manager for Team USA. The major enjoyment from this game/sport is, in my opinion, the gentlemanly behaviour of all participants (M&F). No pressure, no censure, just support and friendship with a gentle competitiveness. Cheers Bob. It does tend to run in families my grandparents all played, though nine of my parents took it up. I agree about the comaraderie aspect. Having taken part in the Civil Service Interantional series last year we were competing hard and socialising hard all week. Now where did I leave my
