Though, where I live, we used to have house martins but have them no longer.

Very good - 'feathered scrap' wonderful description of our summer visitors.
I have nesting housemartins. Also swallows, or maybe swifts, screaming over the garden.

Over here, of course, they aren't going to Africa.
But we've got bright-red cardinals and saucy mockingbirds now.
One of whom can imitate a mobile phone.
