There was once a warrior with great skill who came across a sword of immense power rivaling the power of the gods. The warrior’s name was Viking Bob and the sword was known as The Sword of Legends. When Odin, ruler of the gods, heard of this from his two ravens named Hugin and Munin, Thought and Memory, he sent Thor, the strongest of the gods, to test this warrior’s strength. Thor found Viking Bob and challenged the warrior to a test of strength by putting out a flaming mountain from a distance. Thor immediately started to throw large boulders above the mountain, breaking them apart with lightning bolts from his hammer. Upon seeing this, Viking Bob used the power of his sword to cause a rockslide at the top of the flaming mountain to put out the fire. When the rockslide reached the bottom of the mountain the fire was completely extinguished and Thor congratulated him. At this point Odin saw a chance to delay Ragnaroke, the day of doom. He sent a messenger to bring Viking Bob to Asgard so he could give him a quest to postpone Ragnaroke.
When Viking Bob arrived Odin told him about Ilsgalad, a Frost Jotun, or Frost Giant, warrior who has a mace forged by the gods using their power and topped by the Crystal of Immortality, which eventually grants its owner immortality. Odin also explained how Ilsgalad recently came into possession of this and, while he believes he is immortal, is not yet immortal. The Ruler of the Gods goes on to explain that while not as powerful as Thor, Ilsgalad is still very skilled in battle. Viking Bob questions Odin about the reason he has not sent Thor to fight against Ilsgalad. Oden tells him that Thor is battling with the Jotuns and will aid him in as many ways as he can. With this, Viking Bob leaves Asgard to travel to Jötunheim.
When Viking Bob arrives, Thor meets him and leads him where Ilsgalad’s dwelling is located. Thor stops in front of a mountain that has two huge iron doors at its base. On one door there is an inscription reading, “Ilsgalad, The Frost Jotun Warrior”. Each door had a large crystal serpent bordering the top with black stones set into the eye sockets. When Thor threw a large stone at one of these doors, it flew open and out came a large ball of ice bouncing just over the two warriors heads. Soon after the enormous frost giant Ilsgalad came out with the Crystal Mace of Immortality in his hand. Almost immediately Ilsgalad gave a high pitch whistle as if calling for someone or something. Suddenly three large Stone Jotuns, with their strong durable stony skin, and two Hill Jotuns, the smallest of the Jotun, appeared behind Ilsgalad. Thor told Viking Bob, who knew little about the fighting methods of the Jotun warriors, to fight the Hill Jotuns while he fought against the Stone Jotuns. After they finally defeating both species of Jotuns, Viking Bob told Thor to let him defeat Ilsgalad while Thor goes back to Asgard to rest from his fight with the Stone Jotuns, but Thor refused to go. When Viking Bob turned to attack, Ilsgalad swung his great mace and, while just missing Viking Bob, hit the Viking warrior’s sword instead. When this happened, the sword was wedged firmly in the rocks at the top of the mountain. The great Frost Jotun’s next swing was more accurate and crushed Viking Bob. After the death of his new friend, the enraged Thor slammed the side of the mace as hard as he could with his hammer, flinging the mace and lodging it on the moon’s surface. With the mighty Ilsgalad weaponless, Thor defeated the Jotun with a single blow. Further delaying Ragnaroke.
Now that the Frost Jotun Ilsgalad was finally defeated, Thor went to the top of the mountain. He dislodged the sword of his fallen friend and, with great accuracy, threw it at the spot where the mace had hit. The great sword struck the Crystal of Immortality and firmly stuck in the end of the mace. The broken pieces of the crystal scattered around the entire surface of the moon making it glow a dull white. Every time the moon comes between Midgard and the Sun, The Sword of Legends perched on top of the Crystal Mace of Immortality reflects the Sun’s light.
