I'm coming up with my own entry on Nantucket for submission to the Edited Guide, because it seems like the sort of place that especially needs a hitchhiker's guide. Would you like your entry incorporated into it?

I have written, but have yet to post, a very comprehensive guide to Nantucket. I live there (I mean here.)

Interested?

Of course I'd be happy to collaborate. If you live there, you almost certainly know more about Nantucket than I do. So, it seems fair that your entry be used as the basis. I'll contact you via e-mail shortly, to hash out the details.

Got your email. Then I went over my document and realized that there are about a trillion minor tweeks for me to make:

1. I wrote it all in first person, so tense must change throughout
2. I refer to Nantucket as "here" a lot, so POV must change.
3. I have various experience labeled as QNE (Quintessential Nantucket Experience), and this will probably have to change.
4. I have linked to other web pages, which I'm not sure is kosher on h2g2
5. It's wicked long. (Since we're both from central MA--I grew up in Leicester and West Boylston--I know, you know what I mean by that.)

I'll email it to you if you like.

I may want to start from semi-scratch, pulling sections out of my piece and re-working them. Also, doing a general guide entry on Nantucket, MA sounds like a good idea, but there's so much to say, it might be better to first do a guide entry that would appeal to the most people, i.e., "Visiting Nantucket in the Summer." Then, "Nantucket Off-Season." Then a general piece on Nantucket that gives the facts, history, etc, that can link to the two previous entries.

I read your piece and found a lot of what you say holds true, but there were several obvious inaccuracies. (Like the fact that the wind blows all the trees over here. Just not so. I have over 100 40-foot+ trees on my one-acre lot alone.)

G.

I'd say that QNE, links, and wicked long aren't a problem, though tense and POV obviously are.

If you write an entry about Nantucket and living on Nantucket, and I write one about visiting (with ferry information and such), that seems like a cure for my own inaccuracies and your own wicked long entry. I might have to restrict myself to writing about the off-season, because I have no desire to visit anywhere from which Nantucket is accessible in the summer, unless I can leave my car behind.

So, let's each work on our entries, then throw them open for review the usual way.

Let me know when you have something submitted so I can give my 2 cents. And I'll do the same.
