I was surprised to discover that her last name was pronounced with a row as in boat, instead of row as in argument. Is it a common name and pronunciation in the UK, or am I the only one who was fooled?

No idea. I didn't know how to pronounce it either. Are you UKish? Maybe it's a Scottish thing? Or probably not, seeing as the pronunciation is completely different there. Sorry. Don't know.

If her name had been J.K. Bowling, would you have been fooled? You never can tell with English spelling. Most 'ow' spellings rhyme with cow, but quite a few have an oh sound: bowl, mow, row, sow, Rowland, throw, low etc.

Her name, like David Bowie, is almost always mispronounced.

Yet Edgar Davids name never is, despite the obvious temptation.

The 'ow' is, like JK Rowling, pronounced to sound like 'No', though many people pronounce it to sound like the 'ow' in 'Cow'.
Just think 'Bow and arrow'.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

I would have liked a bit to be added about her name's pronunciation (I am Unitedstation, where we pronounce Bowie's name correctly, apparently), but it *is* a nice article as it is.
