Images, or pictures come in two basic flavours we have the blue, goo or classic background and we have the white, alabaster, brunel or plain background.

For bordered, rectangular images the difference is marginal and will not really be noticed.

Here on HooToo we have also partly transparent images. One of the best examples is the girl dancing in front of the american flag. Even during her movements the background stays the same.

I will add a moving background to emphasise she has a transparent background.

Also you can see the edges glowing white in the dark background (alabaster, brunel and plain users).

Or you see fat contour lines in Goo.

It ends up all images (but a few) are double present in the picture library.

All images come in the blue and white flavour. This is done to let them blend in the skin. Blue images have a dark outline or light coloured text. White images have an shading outline to white, tht is a black line is edged or better smoothened by grey pixels.

Linking to skin determined coloured images goes by using <PICTURE BLOB="B4858881" WIDTH="90px" HEIGHT="90px" BORDER="0" EMBED="FREE" ALT="small Santa" />.

Using <PICTURE BLOB="B4858881blue" /> results in a buggy result, altough the blue image is used. But <PICTURE BLOB="B4858881white" /> results in the blue image too!

Using a preferred skin goes by using <IMG SRC="B4858881" ALT="small Santa" /> for a blue image, <IMG SRC="B4858881blue" ALT="small Santa" /> is also valid for a blue image. As a matter of fact I have not found anything except white to give any extra effects. So <IMG SRC="B4858881white" ALT="small Santa" /> creates you a link to the white version of the image.

There is no way for a researcher to upload his own images. The 'editors' upload the images for Edited entries and ThePost uploads the required artwork.

The basic technique showing images here on H2G2 should be using the PICTURE-tag. However, some properties are translated dubious, or do not function stable at all! Please only use EMBED="Left, Center, Right" if there is nothing else on the same row! (left or right of the image)

Text tends to push the image under the sidebar (right), or disappears under the image(Left or Center). Or the image shows just the left side. This defect can be undone by explicit defining the size of the image using WIDTH and HEIGHT.

The STYLE attribute is voided by the parser, you have to create a SPAN or DIV object containing the image to configure STYLE properties.

Perhaps I expect a bit too much of the browser,

however it is a program

and programs contain bugs, always.

(No it is a bug, if the above does not fit on one row, the text is transferred to the next line also.) This remark should be placed below the last image as it is not part of the paragraph.
