Any pictures caught your eye on the web? You could pop one or two up.
Maybe some HTML gadgets, if you're feeling confident.
If you go to the GuideML clinic and go to the FAQ bit you should find the code for the "Who's online" button which pretty much everyone has.
Actually, while you're at the Clinic, you could root around and see if any of the fancy stuff gives you some ideas

It's dead handy having your own 'who's online' button, especially if you're an ACE!
GuideML is dead easy to pick up, and this is coming from someone of not quite advanced years!

All I know is that you can't post a picture directly; it has to be a link to a web address.
I know they prefer people to use GuideML, but it you aren't comfie writing your own code, most word processors will save text as regular HTML, and then you can just copy and paste into your H2G2 page. Hope it helps.

I don't get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This who's on line button thing.
Can someone give me a link for a list of instructions
for complete, total and utter computer novices which
will explain how to set things up. Or if there isn't a link
can someone please explain it??
The only reason I know vaguely that HTML is for writing web pages (I think)
is that my little brother teaches an evening class on it
Unfortunately he is in Cambridge and I am away at Uni at the moment so I can't ask him.
Appreciate it Dudes and Dudettes.
Oh and how do you do those fish?????

Okay first, smilies and fish:
Type (without spaces):
: - ) for
; - ) for
8 - ) for
: - ( for
> < > for
looking at your page, it looks like you need to set the type to GuideML from plain text, and then click the "change type" button.
Where you have paragraphs in plain text, you need to put paragraph tags and around each paragraph, for example
" this is a paragraph, and after this paragraph will be a line break" would give
"this is a paragraph, and after this paragraph will be a line break
"
in Guideml. Or alternatively you can put break tags: at the end of each paragraph... experiment and see.
Visit the instructions for using Guideml now, at http://www.h2g2.com/A155701 and visit the GuideML clinic at http://www.h2g2.com/A187229
The best person to ask for guideML help is Bruce, who's page is http://www.h2g2.com/U25551
Hope all this helps.

Oooh, the people who've had my 'famous' "GuideML made dead simple" through email...I love explaining it!
help please
billypilgrim Posted Mar 27, 2000
Here's the "Who's online" code:
<!--
function popusers(link) {
popupWin = window.open(link, 'popusers', 'status=1,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,width=165,height=340');
}
// -->
Who's On H2G2?
Thanks, Bruce.
If you set your page to HTML or GuideML, just copy that whole thing (if you're not sure how to do that, just highlight the text, hit "command c or, for a Mac, apple c to copy.) Then paste it into your page where you want it. (command v or apple v to paste).
Again, GuideML is supposed to be easy to learn (but I'm the wrong person to ask). But if you are not at all comfie with code, try saving a Word Processor doc as "HTML" and pasting it in.
BTW, in the above code, you can change the words "Who's On H2G2" to read anything you want it to read, and that's the way your link will be worded. Changing those words won't change the code that gives you the link.
If it helps.

So, it's all down to who you want to have teach you GuideML
