I am quite interested in travel at the moment. Can you ask around and see if you can find out what type of holidays our Researchers like to take? It may be a total mixture of things, but it would be interesting to know.

As a Yank, I enjoy travel to Europe. I spent two weeks in Constanta, Romania and love the beaches there. Very inexpensive! Wonderful people there. Very different than Bucharest. Many other Europeans there.

Try Aus/NZ Peta. Sun, sand, and plenty of nice cold alcoholic beverages. Only 27 hours from London.

I have to Agree with Loony!
I've been all around OZ and It really is a must! There are so many contrasts in landscape and people it really is the Holiday destination of the 21st century! And as Loony says "only 27 hours from London!"
Interesting news from the land of OZ - Virgin Airlines are going to be starting up here very soon! Good old Richard claims that his Airline will offer flights between Oz cities for as little as $100 between cities. That's cheap! About 2 or 3 hundred dollars cheaper! So when the lucky traveler find themselves in OZ they should be able to really get around! If you do visit OZ, don't just go to Sydney and Brisbane because you will miss out on the really good stuff!
Still haven't been to NZ but I want to! Everytime I think of NZ now I tend to think about the Lord of the Rings which is being filmed there at the moment!

Peta, New Zealand is also a country of contrasts and only two hours from Sydney.
The greenness of Ireland, the rural countryside of England, the mountains of Switzerland, the indigenous Maori culture, the unique geology, miles of virtually deserted white sand beaches, and the bright lights of the bigger cities.
Daniel, let's hope Virgin has their planes on the AUS/NZ route.
I agree when travelling in Aus you meet the 'real' Ockers away from the big cities. Incidentally Daniel, most of my family live in Adelaide. Mum lives in Hallett Cove. I was last in Adelaide three years ago and hope to be back their in April/May 2000, for a visit.

Hej there,
Yes, Peta, definitely OZ - and don't miss the west coast! There I spent 4 days on a 12 mile long beach with white sand all alone... *sigh* - but inner-australian-flights are a lot cheaper for foreign travellers anyway, I paid 40-80 $ per flight .
I didn't have the time for NZ then - but next time .

My sister is in Oz, but the only thing that made me want to go see, is she said there are places where the water is so clear, it is virtually invisible, now that would be worth seeing. For my travels it has been Scotland (with family all along the west coast you really get the history around the areas) and recently Amsterdam, where I shall be returning next year, for Queens Day (meant to be a party and a half

Are you all sunbathers or bungey jumpers or cyclists or anything like that? What do you think about other Researchers on the site, from what you have seen on your travels?

I think travel could be a major topic... (for me anyway, being a mountaineer / rock climber / cyclist / camper) etc) and it could involve DNA's travels too!
How about another central entry for all these nuggets? And maybe one day organised H2G2 travelling? And 'find likeminded contacts in other countries'?
Sorry, letting my ideas run away with me again.
BTW, I myself am seriously thinking at the moment of walking around the perimeter of Britain, maybe bringing in sponsorship for charity. I've explained my ideas somewhere, I can't remember where offhand, but there's a link at the top of my user page.
Whoops - I've just realised I'm connected at peak rate time, and I've run up a £2 phone call in under an hour... this H2G2 thing doesn't help my student expenses....

Anyone interested in bungy jumping, tie your ankles together and hop over to http://www.h2g2.com/P203978
Peta, the attached forum has comment on researchers who have been, or want to go, whitewater rafting and sky diving
