Candida albicans

Bear with me - this is my first entry and I will edit and add to it over a long period!
Candida albicans is a yeast and is the most common cause of yeast infection in humans. It is often classed as opportunistic as it tends to cause infections while our body's defences are down or following a course of antibiotics, when our normal bacteria are depleted allowing the yeast to grow.
The most common infections caused by C. albicans are in the mouth and genital regions, both are known more commonly as thrush.
