A Conversation for Ben Hur - The 1959 Film

Right. Updated this quite a bit now. I have elaborated on the actual film details, included quite a few extra facts and figures (although the specific location of the film sets still escapes me - close to Rome is the best I can find) and added a short section for trivia. As IMBD covers this in far more detail than warrants inclusion in an Edited Entry I have linked to it. smiley - ok

Any more comments? smiley - smiley

I may be completely wrong on this, but was it Ben Hur that was first promoted with the phrase 'cast of thousands'?

And possibly worth mentioning that the phrase 'bigger than Ben Hur' has entered popular culture?

Otherwise, fantastic!

The only promotion I can find is 'The World's Most Honored Motion Picture' and 'The Entertainment Experience of a Lifetime!'

I think it was Gandhi which had the 'cast of thousands'. smiley - smiley

I'll work the 'bigger than Ben Hur' saying into the trivia section - I'd forgotten about that. smiley - winkeye

Wasn't Monty Python's Life of Brian advertised as "a film that makes Ben Hur look like an epic"?

Hi Shazz,

I can't believe I missed this so long! I love the grandeur of this film and I think you have presented it brilliantly... truly enjoyed reading it.

I found just a couple of things I would query and I am not sure how right I am but thought I'd mention them anyway...

smiley - choc a further half a year was required >> . A further six months were required

smiley - cake used 18 of these >>> used 18 of these sets

smiley - donut Sculpters >>> sculptors

smiley - bubbly pond, itself, created >>>> pond itself created

smiley - ale blue dye to fade >>> from his skin (presumably?)

smiley - cheesecake 'glorious color' using 65 millimeters >>> should this be in UK spelling? If so, colour and millimetres

smiley - strawberry 15 million dollars bill >> 15 million dollar bill

smiley - popcorn refuse water to Judah he is saved >>> refuse water to Judah, he is saved

smiley - crisps She councils him >> she counsels him

smiley - hotdog speak with his relatives >>speak with his mother and sister

smiley - stiffdrink cured of thier leprosy >> cured of their leprosy

smiley - redwine Most Honored Motion Picture >>Most Honoured Motion Picture

just nitpicky little things that are guaranteed to escape you when you write a fabulous entry like this....

Thanks for that Wilma smiley - cheers

I've changed most of your suggestions although the two spelling 'Americanisms' remain as they are direct quotes from the film propaganda as witnessed by the inclusion of quote marks. smiley - ok

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

I believe that a small red car is mentioned on the linked urban myths page - I don't know if it is genuine or not...
