... full shelves, lots of variety, helpful employees who know where everything is, many checkout lines available, and interesting men to sweep you off your feet! (Well, the men are either university students or their professors, this being a university town, but interested parties can 'shop' for more than their foodstuffs, if you catch my drift. 
)
Now the department stores around here -- you've described them perfectly. I wonder how they stay in business.

I remember when shopping for groceries used to be like that here quizzical but it's been a long while!
