It is a common bit of academic and pseudo-intellectual ribaldry to consider the poor as a disadvantaged bunch who have nowhere to go but up.

What is widely ignored is that even those in poverty often have a cultural comfort that the superior gapingly lack.

As wrong as it might be, centuries of folklore and custom can be enriching to the poor in a way that facts, theories and proffered solutions can never be.

So, who is the poorer, those with no money or those with no culture except what they agree upon among themselves at lunch?
