OK, it's a bit sad to discuss your own entry.
I don't yet have an amateur radio license, although I am working through the course prior to the exam. I very much enjoy the hobby (although I cannot yet take an active role in working other stations) and I'd love to see other young people taking it up. These days Amateur Radio is viewed as a fanatic's occupation, and it would be "uncool" to show too much enthusiasm. Image aside, it really is great fun, and its reputation as only good for older people can be destroyed if more people would realise that it can be very promising.
It has educational benifits too - if you like electronics or just do it for fun, it could make the difference between getting a university place of working for Tesco's for the rest of your life.
Propaganda aside, 73s to everyone out there... sometime next year I hope to work each one of you!

Maybe by now you have your licence? Good luck. It is a great hobby, and has kept me sane (some would disagree!) for the past 32 years. The Internet isn't really a substitute in hibby terms, any more than power boats were a subsitute for sailing. It's great fun to surf the air waves, learning about the vagaries of propagation, antennas and so on. Have fun!

Well I took the NRAE about three weeks ago, but I still haven't heard from the RSGB. It was really easy though so I'm now entered for the full RAE in May I think... time for some revision!
As you say, the practical side of the hobby definitely outclasses the internet
Don't forget to look out for our radio club, the Cambridge & District Amateur Radio Club (GX2XV) on the air!
