*breaks into a rift from...*
Oh lord, Please don't let me be misunderstood.
Did someone mention Santana?

Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Oct 28, 1999
I'm not sure how much the band I've listened to have actually influenced me... if they haven't it's more because I've failed to incorporate they're feel or style into my own, not because I don't respect them. My dad influenced me more than anyone, most likely. But if you want my tastes...
The Beatles
Santana
Early Eric Clapton (Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Cream, etc)
Paul Simon (+ Simon & Garfunkle)
Bob Dylan
U2 (80s stuff, not 90s)
Blues Traveler

SORRY, I didn't mean to post that, it's soooo incomplete, and I was going to revise it totally, and add things, but that's a partial list, and now I'm mad at myself for accidentally hitting the post button and I'll go sulk in another forum untill I feel brave enough to come back and finish what I started.

I know I, for one, could never even -hope- to remember all the bands who've influenced me... That would mean every one I've ever heard. Some have influenced me -not- to go there, too, ya know.

YES! The Grateful Dead is a must for the list!
There is atleast 3292 other bands which I haven't put on my list!! YET!
Musical Influences
Anonymouse Posted Oct 29, 1999
Heh... And that's not even including the second list -- the list of artists who influenced the artists who influenced you.

I know this may seem a little out-of-place, but...
Lynyrd Skynyrd!
Musical Influences
Mark Moxon Posted Oct 29, 1999
First two Lynyrd albums rock. The rest are rubbish... though the 1991 reunion ain't bad.
Great stuff to play guitar along to, I always find.

I have to agree with Uncle Sam's Greatful Dead assertion! And I'm throwing in Lou Reed, just for the helluvit! And every girl I've ever met, because, they've definetly influenced my songwriting a great deal!

I'd have to say the Animals, considering they did the very first song I ever learned on a guitar...
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the rising sun
And it's been the ruin
Of many young, po' boy

Did you know they didn't write that? It was originally written for a woman to sing, and the lyrics were very different. Hint: it wasn't written about a casino, as the Animals (great band, I love his voice) would sing...

The animals made the most well-known hit by it. I carefully avoided using the term "written" in there.
It's been done by oh-so-many, and I have to admit that the Animals version was not the first I heard. I never thought it was about a cassino. It's about a cat-house.
