A fine looking symbol, full of snazz and pizzazz, the H2G2 icon is nonetheless remarkably phallic. Like interlocked male genitaIia, it stares down on the lonely researcher. But what were the designers trying to say with such a symbol? And what does it tell us about the continued dominance in Western culture of masculine expressions of being?
