*looks sheepish*
Well actually i started with some trappist beer from Belgium. The Blue Chimay that was the first beer mentioned in the original forum.
Cost me an absolute fortune but WOW what a beer. Although at the price and the alcohol level it will have to be for special occasions only...
I saw some Old Peculiar which i have tried before and liked, being a dark ale man. Anything along those lines will be searched out immediately

Fuller's 1845. Dark, rich and full-flavoured. A real treat.
Fuller's ESB as well, actually.
Don't know of any other dark ales.

Dark ales and Old ales...
Owd Roger, from Marstons, can't remember how strong, but very strong.
Old Tom, Robinsons. Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain, 2000 CAMRA national winter beer festival.
Old Peculiar was the silver prize winner.
Now to go back and try and think of some more

Thank you all
Of course the chances of me finding any of them here are probably minimal but i will keep trying...
To reciprocate i can only say if you find any of the Coopers beers esp the Sparkling Ale, The Dark ale, or the stout then give it a try. I'm sure you all already know not to go anywhere near Fosters. Absolute rubbish that no one here drinks anyway...

We could all contribute to a central fund and send Linus some beer for Christmas. Like, send in a bottle of ale and some money for the postage. Is that workable?
If it isn't, then I'm sorry to get your hopes up, Linus

I'm pretty certain there's a mail order bottle beer company somewhere that takes orders over the 'net. I'll have to try and see if I can find it.
It was the local Camra meeting last night, and the new owners of Mauldons Brewery came along, and brought a tub of beer with them Free beer all night and then having to get up for work at 5am is not the best of combinations. But if ever you see it around, try the Mauldons Dickens at 4.0% Superb!

Thanks Necro
The thought is much appreciated but there is no need for you all to spend money on me...
As long as you keep mentioning good beers i will try and search them out.
As for you Pastey, i am trying to feel sorry for you but i think we have all done worse than get up at 5 the next morning where there is free beer involved LOL

Aye, that was my own fault But hey, that's one of the benefits/problems of drinking with a brewer
Another good beer, Hadrian Centurian at 4.0%. Light, well balanced hops and darn drinkable. Brewed by Four Rivers brewery now

Hi chaps! Just to mention that I had a luverly surprise whilst shopping in my local Co-Op this week... They've just started to stock the range of bottled real ales for £1.65 - £1.75 each that you mentioned earlier, and I bought a bottle of Bishop's Finger for my hubby as a present from the sprogs for Father's Day (Sunday).

I think they cost a bit more than that out here unfortunately which is why i am grateful to you all for steering me in the right direction. I would hate to spend $8 AUD on a bad beer...

Had a bottle of Young's St George's last night. After I heard tha england had won the football match I thought it was time to drink it!.
Nicly balanced flavour, described as a full bodied english ale which is a neat summation of the beer.

I'll keep an eye out for that one
Unfortunatly I was on the Gin & Tonics all night, at least until the bar ran out of ice. It was either that or warm Tetly bitter
But to make up for it I'm going to Tescos in a bit to get some St.Peters Elderberry beer (£0.99p a bottle!!!)

Prefer the golden ale, or the organic from St Peter's myself.

On the subject of Elder, I used to make a luvery Elderflower wine, using dried Elderflowers from a home brew supplies shop.
One year, I discovered that a load of ants had managed to get under the fermenting bin lid and been unable to get back out, so the whole batch was full of dead ants! Being slightly miffed and not wanting to waste 5 gallons of my hard work, I strained the must, including dead ants through muslin. It turned out to be the best batch of elderflower wine I've ever made!
Mind you, I used to allow people to drink and compliment me on it first before I mentioned the added ingredient. It became known as Gwen's ant wine!
John's really chuffed with his bottle of Bishop's Finger by the way! Even better, he says he'll share it with me tonight!

Good to see that the kids know what to do for fathers day
As Linus is constantly telling us of the virtue of Coopers Dark Ale, I'll ask, can this be got in the UK. If so where from?
Now for that bottle of Badger's Golden Champion Ale...

I'll try and find out for you Phil.
I was told by an Irish friend some years ago of a poster showing a bottle of Coopers stout surrounded by Guinness bottles with the words 'our only serious competition' so i guess Guinness imported it back then...
I will have to get back to you on that one

My dad is really into organic stuff, so I got him two organic ales: Crop Circle (lightly flavoured, nice taste, very drinkable in yesterday's weather) and the one brewed by Caledonian that I have temporarily forgotten the name of. So yes, we do know what to do.
Necro (wondering if he can still be counted a child for the purposes of this at just over 18 years of age.)
Key: Complain about this post
