Congratulations on completing your entry without reference to that windblown, oilskinned, welly-booted, dancing fisherman I remember appearing on all the postcards in all the shops in Skeggie during my happy childhood trips to the coast from sunny Scunny. Then, as now, if not between, we Scunthorpians lived in Lincolnshire too and looked to Skegness for a higher class of seaside trip if we ventured away from Cleethorpes and the Humber estuary. I doff my cap at the folk of Skegness for using the unappealing wet and windy weather as a selling point and wholly endorse your recommendation to visit in the Winter months. The grey skies, the salty sea spray tainting your candyfloss -the memories come flooding back. Thanks for the reminder of those bygone days.

Eeee, by 'eck.
That brought back sum memories. Scunthorpe, Skegness even Cleethorpes by crikey.
'Course us from t'other side o' t'Umber went to such places as Withernsea (cold, desolate, bingo & ponies) for a nice day out. If we were dead lucky, it'd be Scarborough. Eee, grand it were.
Even been t'Blackpool where you can see t'small blind brown fish floating in t'sea.
Whattawouldntgive fer a nice piece o' Haddock raght now.

Ahhh, the memories come flooding back just like the tide at Morecombe. I was born in Cleethorpes and spent a lot of time in Skeggy. Then somehow ended up in Sheffield. Just a short !!! train ride to Cleethorpes, or Sheffield by the sea as we knew it, or Skeggy. In fact I remember winning a fancy dress prize at the Derbyshire Miners Holiday camp when I wer nere but a bairn. Ehhh them wus the days. I live in Florida now and get the American version of little old ladies driving around at 20 mph. They let them have cars here, even when they can't see any more. But any way it is warmer than Skegness most of the time.
By the way how is Scunny these days ? My dad worked there in the steel works and we lived down the road a bit in Barton. That was before the bridge came. Last time I was home I drove all around to see where I used to live and hardly recognized a thing, but I suppose that is progress.
Well I better shut up and keep browsing.

From Cleethorpes to Florida - well done!
Just to let you know, the Derbyshire miners Holiday camp has been bulldozed now but Butlins is still thriving.
Florida eh! Very interesting - have a read of the last paragraph of my user page....

Talking of moving south for the better weather, I've just been speaking to the 3rd member of the red shoe gang! He's living in a comune in a forest in the South of France, living off things that grow in the garden and not having to work. Sounds good eh? Might go and join him!
