I'll keep an eye on it, as well. Is there anything you're using to baste with or will an occasional turn do the trick?

*ox has a go at turning the spit and then begins brushing the savory, rich smelling basting sauce all over the roasting meat*

Mmmm...juicy!

Pegasus, the mead is in that large pewter jug labelled mead
ox, it's probably nearly done by now... if you can pull the spit arms out to their greatest extent, that'll keep the deer warm and prevent it from burning. It'll just need turning every so often then...
better test it *takes a large sharp dangerous looking knife and slices some meat directly off the spit*
mmmm, perfect... smiley - smiley

thank you both... do serve yourselves, but be careful of this knife, it is sharp and should only be used for needful culinary purposes.

would you care to suggest something mediaeval that you would like me to prepare. I do have some vegetable stews and pies already out, but if there is something else that you would prefer, let me know.

Pottage is traditionally medieval

I assume it's one of the following two meanings

pottage: (n) 1, the spoils of a successful poisoning (or 'potting') of a presidential candidate; 2, a stew.

I'm fairly sure neither of those is vegetarian. smiley - smiley

Post 59

AEndr, The Mad Hatter

the word "stew" does not immediately imply a meat based stew, pottage can be vegetarian.

*brings out a big crock of pottage*

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.)

Maybe it's a mis-spelling of porridge.
