Oxford is rather pedantic

strange yes. But it has a massive reputation. Going to Oxford probably means thet you could expect an American company to pay you $5000 more a year than if you had gone to most other places.

is Oxford hard work??? and did you do your (equivalent of) BSc there???
just at the mo, I seem to be the only first year needing to do any work, purely cos of the silly uni I go to (mutters distantly...)

I did my MSci at Imperial
Physics courses are always hard work in all years
so are most science and engineering subjects
at least if you want to start your much harder second year anything better than way behind
Oxford seems to be fairly hard work and play for the undergraduates
though I am a post grad now so don't get to see much of the undergraduates unless I go out of my way to

Hi 'scuse me any Canbridge people here? Just wondering wanted to rant but didn't want to insult anyone Thought I'd warn you all first in case my fairy wings impale someone by mistake due to irate fluttering

ah... see I'm at imperial, and was just wondering, because the attitiude towards work is greater here than in most other unis. but i guess thats all part of the reputation isnt it really....

I'd say that the top few do have a hard work attitude - probably why they are in the top rankings. IC does work hard, but then we have no artists to laze around giving the impression that the average is in the middle.

I was in Bernard Sunley (Evelyn Gardens too) - before any of Evelyn Gardens was done up
I remember arriving and looking up at my bed - those were the days of 7 foot high cabin bunks - and thinking "I can't reach the mattress on tiptoe from the floor!"

most of them are still in a bad state of disrepair! Willis Jackson (an ex lives there) is full of peeling paint and mould.... really foul actually! none of them use the shower on their floor, they all go upstairs... yuk! fortunately I have none of those problems!

*shudders with the memories*
I am in a graduate hall here in Oxford - it is sheer luxury
my parents couldn't find the place when they drove here - drove past 4 times as it looked too good to be student accomodation

That nasty hall sound much like Whitworth hall in Manchester. That place wasn't very nice either.

I'm at Brasenose.
I considered Oxbridge - then I found this nice London college - biggest Phys dept in Europe, higher on the tables for physics than Ox or bridge, had a geophys option in the third year, seemed better organised than the ox or bridge and didn't involve extra exams. I was very happy with my choice - my school weren't, my physics teachers were, knowing Imperial's reputation - my school didn't get to make the decision though but it took some talking to convince them to stop pressuring me.
IC was right for me for a UG.
I haven't told them where I'm at now.
And I think it is right for me for PG, well the project is the thing at grad level.
