I'm a fan of network doom... buy a copy of doom - download one of the hacks to get 32-players and lotsa people per PC, spend a few hours setting it all up the day before, 4 people on each PC. Doom works well cos you can run it on anything from a 486 up, which is a decided bonus, cos you can use those dodgy machines that have been slowly turning obsolescent in your back yard.
You may need a few network cables and/or adapters, so it gets a little expensive, but it's all good re-usable stuff if you've got that job for a living anyway...
If not, then you'll have to stick to scrabble...
