Using other peoples original ideas to profit oneself is the main downside of plagiarism.
This is one of the reasons we have copyright and trademarks. Another reason is so eventually 200, mainly American, giant corporations will have world dominance over everything.
I believe there is nothing wrong in spotting something you like or find amusing, and then rewriting it in your own style.
My cockroach yarns which have been accepted as official guide entries originated in this way. I credited the original people, organisations, from where I got the ideas.
