Excellent article. Brought back some great memories.
Maybe include the fact that the big kids (Dads) hog the batting, little kids end up crying because some oaf runs through the sandcastles they have spent hours sculpturing.
In NZ, beach vollyball and beach soccer are growing in popularity and the cricket is mainly played at picnics in parks.
Well written. 92.37 per cent. 100% if you change the Australiana to international words. Esky = chillie bin full of ice and beer.

Thanks for your suggestions - as you can see, I've included a couple of them. However, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't bring myself to call an "esky" a "chilly-bin" - I tried and I just can't do it!! Besides, I have a feeling that "chilly-bin" is just as regional - don't they call it a "cooler" in the US?

Thank goodness you said "cooler" because I had never heard of "esky" or "chilly-bin". You may want to search for an alternative word that all cultures know, but I'll be darned if I know what that is.......

Esky (pronounced Eski) Austral. Trademark, a portable insulated container for keeping food and drink cool. C20: from Eskimo, alluding to the Eskimo's cold habitat.
Taken from Collins English Dictionary. Maybe include the definition as a footnote?

A footnote!! Now there's a good idea!! (and as soon as I've worked out how to do it, I will!)

To put in a footnote all you do is put the footnote text between tags like these and you get a footnote.
