Yes, I knew that ‘Fisk’ is Norwegian and means ‘Fish’. Incidentally it is also Danish and still means ‘Fish’. I know this because I am Danish and therefore Danish is my language, but that’s okay, I can live with it. How about you?
Why you’ve decided upon your nickname? I really don’t know, but perhaps there’s a connection to be found within the Danish language:
In Denmark, a ‘cod’ is called a ‘torsk’, which is also a word used to describe a very silly person. This could be one reason to refer to you by the name ‘fisk’.
In Denmark, a ‘shark’ is a ‘haj’, which also applies to either gamblers (‘spillehajer’ = ‘gambling sharks’ or con artists who deal in money lending or real estate. (‘Lånehajer’ = ‘lending sharks’ / ‘bolighajer’ = ‘real estate sharks’ This could be another reason to refer to you by the name ‘fisk’.
I’ll see if I can get to think of any other fishy relations to this nickname.
My nickname is KimotoCat and there is a perfectly good – however long – explanation for this. I’ll leave you to suffer only the short version:
I am an amateur / hobby author and comic artist and for a good thirteen years I have had a main character in my fictional universe called Kimoto Takita, a half-breed Sheerar/human female with semi-Asian cultural background but seated in a fantasy/science fiction environment.
When emerging on the Internet, I found that there are a good many people with my usual (given) name of Kirsten and that it was hard to use it as a handle without facing the ‘handle all ready in use, pick another’, just about no matter where I went. After a few attempts at numbers, codes or even plain ‘Kimoto’, which is BTW a Japanese name, I also ran into other people using that.
The before mentioned Sheerar race is very feline (cat-like) in appearance and it suddenly sprang to mind to connect the two into ‘KimotoCat’, which has been my handle on a wide variety of chat-rooms, mail-addresses and site-related homepages ever since. (Yes, I do have a [email protected] address!)
Hence my nickname: KimotoCat.
Feel free to ask more about this intriguing feline female.

Wow! u have a fictional universe, and u still call me a tosk! (the norwegian word for cod is also torsk, but that don't mean a really silly person, however, the norwegian word tosk, which I find quite similar to torsk, means a really silly person, hence what I wrote in the first sentence)
I don't think that's the reason I call myself "fish"
A shark (haj in Danish, hai in Norwegian) is not a fish, therefore I belive neither of your -haj theories (although I recognize some of them from Norwegian)
In other words, you didn't manage to tell me why I call myself "Fisk"
but thanx anyway!
(No, I don't have a [email protected] address) (but I do have a [email protected] address!)
if you feel like it, please tell me more about that intriguing feline female

How am I to understand that stuff about me calling you a ‘tosk’ in spite of me having a fictional universe?!?
And a shark IS in fact a fish. It’s a whale, which is not a fish but a mammal.
Oh, and about that intriguing feline female:
I’ve sent you an email containing a pic of her. (Others: Feel free to ask for a pic!) Her mother is sheerar, which is a feline but highly intelligent species. Her father is a Japanese human. Herself, well, a crossbreed.
She fancies everything Japanese except bushido, loves good sushi (hates bad sushi) and knows Japanese fencing and martial arts. She is also a skilled space pilot, licensed to a class-F freighter. (For comparison, that’s just a little bigger than, say, the Millennium Falcon.) She has travelled as a fugitive of her home world for three years and has settled down on a medieval but magical planet called Panghea, where she has experienced a lot of things.
Want to hear the longer story? Ask away.
Anyway, any news regarding the origin of your nickname; Fisk?

Well, all that tosk/fictional universe stuff is just bullshit, anyway.
Wow! that intriguing felline female looks scary! I hope she won't eat me! But all in all she sounds kinda cool, and yes, I would like to hear the longer story.
I'm starting to wonder if my name ( ) has something to do with the babel-fish? After all, this is h2g2.

But why would I want to be named after the babel fish?
The babel fish is kind of a universal transelator, and considering the fact that I only know 3 languages (Norwegian, English and German), I wouldn't compare myself with the babel fish in any way.
So now I've thrown away that theory as well.
If no one will explain to me why I call myself Fisk in, lets say, a month, I will change my nickname!

Just don't give up, my fishy friend.
There are always reasons, we just may not really want to hear them!
Would you like me to come up with some more suggestions?

There was a lot of spelling-errors in the message I am replying to.
I do apologize for this, and hope that no one had any trouble understanding it.
This is the text without any errors (I belive):
I did it!
My nickname is not "Fisk" anymore! What a relief!
If there still are some errors, please notify me; English is not my primary language, and I constantly do stupid errors, at least my teacher says so...

I got a bit confused here:
"And a shark IS in fact a fish. It’s a whale, which is not a fish but a mammal. "
Just so we get this right - A shark is a fish, whitch has nothing whatsoever to do with
- whales who in fact are mammals.
That should settle it

I'm a teacher!
This means that I cpuld have explained this in ssimpler terms, but I chose not to.
This is a way to con people into exercising their wits!
Here's another - try to pick all errors in this text!
Have fun - perhaps I'll even grade you on it.
And yes, whales are mammals, sharks are not. But this doesn't mean that you can't eat both!

I don't think it is verry polite to laugh at by some bloke who tried to think of a short, catchy, pithy name and spent five sleepless nights trying but couldn't think of one's little fishies!
Shame on you KimotoCat!

Do you see what's different?
