Global Village Idiot

Hi Spartus, nice article.

In terms of when to visit Disneyland, I have an extra tip. All the tourists arrive in LA on the weekend; the first thing the hotels ask is whether they want to go to Disneyland on Monday - they run free coaches, so they want to make sure they're full. all the kids go 'yes, yes, Disney, Disney'. By Wednesday, or Thursday to be safe, these kids have been thewre and done that, they're off to Universal Studios or the beach. Tell your concierge that you want to go to Disneyland tomorrow - he'll try and talk you out of it, because he doesn't want to run the bus just for you. Tough. You'll find the queues are significantly shorter, so you get more for your (I agree, too high) entrance fee.

Also, did you know that the orange groves from which the county gets its name are the reason there are koalas in San Diego Zoo? When the trees were being planted, the wind was too strong, they had to find a tougher species to act as a windbreak. Some clever person brought in eucalyptus from Australia, and that's pretty much all a koala needs for a happy life - hey presto, the world's second biggest population centre for the cute little blighters.

It might be worth being commercially neutral and mentioning Knot's Berry Farm, and any other entertainment centres - was there one called Six Flags Magic Mountain or some such?

It's been a long time - Wayne's World was the hottest new movie when I was there - but it's a great neck of the woods, I ought to head back sometime.

Spartus

Hi Gary. I saw your comments a few days back, but I keep forgetting to reply. Anyway, your comments are all dead-on, particularly the bit about the orange trees. There are roughly 7 of them left, so, naturally I forgot. It occurred to me a few days before you posted this, but it was one of those, "Oh yeah, must remember to add that," while I was at work, meaning that I wasn't near a computer at the moment, and I kept forgetting.

Anyway, edits will be taken care of...sometime. Thanks for the feedback. smiley - smiley

Not Fragile

One or two very minor additions to the entry.

The Orange County Register. This must surely rate as one of the world largest paper recycling contibutors, or the world largest paper consumers. Its is huge, but the information content is minimal. We would get the LA Times, if it was slightly relevent.

The road system in OC seems to have rules all of it's own. I would love to meet the person responsible for those unlit white on green street signs. I spend half my life getting lost at night.

Oh yes, I think that I read that they are extending the park-park at the Spectrum......

Nice Entry though, pretty much spot on.
