You forgot to mention two charming aspects of hellenic road travel, which may or may not pertain to Crete only: bullet-riddled road signs (used as target practice by local peasants or soldiers) and the little religious shrines errected at the site of fatal accidents. The more shrines in a specific spot, the slower you go.
