Pong is the seminal computer game. Sod asteroids, the key thing about pong that has kept its memory alive is that anyone with two brain cells could program their own copy. Even i've done it, a programming feat equivalent to the old 'if you have an infinite number of monkeys.......' idea. Mine did have certain innovations: the bats were banjos and the ball a pig. I bet everyone else on H2G2 has written, or knows somebody who has written, a Pong variant. If you don't/haven't then why are you waiting? Two bats and a ball - that's all the code you need.
