From a technical standpoint, surely it's not over until the fat lady has finished singing. If it was over when the fat lady sings, no-one would know what the fat lady was singing about.
although, quite frankly, sometimes the fat lady isn't really full of clarity anyway.

I've always found the fat lady to be full of hot air, but then I never was much into opera.
