h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Interesting this, and not often seen on the internet.

I've got a site that may one day make a profit, but having no capital, not even the abstract sort of capital inherent in a name like 'Douglas Adams', I find the whole commercial side a bit tricky.

Showing exactly what the site sets out to do and how it intends to do it is as educational and entertaining as anything else here.

At least you lucky guys only ask for written contributions from the general punters out there - I'm trying to get radio features for nothing.....

Because people are contributing to h2g2 on a voluntary basis we think it's important that we are as open and honest with them as possible. Thanks for your positive feedback, we really appreciate it.

What sort of radio features are you trying to get? There's a possibility that some of the Researchers here would be interested in getting involved. I know that some of our Researchers are interested in radio, some of them professionally.

I agree with you about the notion of financing a .com company: too many business-models which are out of date in six months. Too many investors looking for a massive hit too quickly.

I, too, have a personal project that will make its own web-site and have little experience in any business, much less on the web. Seeing how professionals put this kind of site together gives me hope that I can do something similar (make a successful business out of a dynamite idea) and make it show a profit.
