You might be interested in Wrigglers (http://www.h2g2.com/P180208), a program I wrote to try and simulate cellular growth. It uses a boolean genomic network to generate "production rules" for an L-System style development algorithm.

It's not as visually exciting as many alife demos, but I'd be interested to hear what you think. Follow the "See wrigglers at home" link for a bit more detail.
