A Conversation for Oasis

In my opinion, Oasis will go down in history as the last great band of the rock and roll era (1955-1999.)
I remember when they first burst on the scene in 1994, people tried to understand them ... The truth is there is nothing to understand; Oasis ARE (or rather WERE) Rock and Roll.
I have heard, however, that their latest album is, at best, mediocre. Can any fans comment?

it definitely depends on which kind of their music you liked. The more loud drum beat one from Definitely Maybe, the tunes off What's the stroy Morning glory with a bit of inbetween, or quieter ones like Talk Tonight or Half the World away. The new album is definitely not their best and no where near as good as The Masterplan (B sides) but still is definitely worth a listen.

This from an Oasis fan in New England USA~
'Giants' a bit mellow maybe but I always fiqured the 'Beatles ripoff' accusation was a pretty good compliment and it applies to this record as much or more so than the first three. It is sure good enough for me, maybe I'm desperate, the competition here in the states ain't what it was.

Great news!! I've just got tickets to go and see Oasis in Zürich on May 31st. If any other H2G2 researchers are there, I'll be the old fart wearing a tatty FC Luzern shirt hanging around at the back of the crowd.
I can't wait to see the boys at last, though. Just my luck if Noel and Liam have a tiff and the concert gets cancelled...

Well, Liam and Noel DID have a tiff, which meant that the Oasis I saw in Zürich featured Liam plus a session musician playing Noel's guitar parts.
But who cares, because they were FANTASTIC. Maybe the absence of Noel caused them to play more well-known songs, and not just tracks off the last album, but hearing classics like Supersonic, Shaker Maker, Ciggies and Alcohol, Live Forever, Wonderwall, Stand by me, etc, etc played so tight and with such passion convinced me that Oasis are the greatest living rock and roll band. Liam may be a surly yob, but he is also the greatest rock star of the present era.
If you get a chance to see Oasis, particularly in a small hall, rather than outdoors mega-gig, I can only suggest you take it.
On no Noel...

Now what?
I wonderwall?
