A Conversation for Don't Panic

Changing Password...

Post 1

Orville

I just logged on today. When I went to edit my page, I found that I had a password, but I was unable to find out what it was, as it was blocked by asterisks. (As is standard procedure.) HOWEVER, I never received an email (or anything else) with the password.
So, like a fool, I tried to change my password. I cleared the "Password" and "Confirmed Password" windows and typed in a new password. HOWEVER, when the page reloaded, those two windows contained the same row of asterisks. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with my computer? Did my data get lost in an eddy in the space-time continuum?

I'm not panicing, but I'm getting close...

I'm no expert or anything, (the experts will be here soon enough) but I think that everyone has about 15 asterisks in the password box regardless of how many characters are actually in the password. So if I were you, I'd not panic, sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy the bonkers world that is H2G2.

Have fun smiley - smiley

Frizzychick is right - no matter what password you enter the h2g2 site will display a default value in the password field even though it has accepted your new password. This is so that, if you are sharing your computer, someone unscrupulous can't use the browsers back button to cut&paste your password & steal it smiley - winkeye
