Why is it that despite everything I do, every time, without exception, I have tio re-register with this forum. It really does seem to be a waste of time and most of the messages which I read seem to be from real gooks! I do not think that I will continue to access this place, even though I was one of the first to register. I wish you all well. GOODBYE

The site uses cookies to recognise users. So you must have cookies 'enabled' for the site to recognise you - if you don't you will be greeted as 'unknown hiker' whenever you arrive.

I've also seen reports of problems caused by ISP servers caching pages & other problems associated with ISP proxy servers. One of the ISPs mentioned there was Freeserve, who I notice from a quick rummage through your homepage, is/was your ISP.
The recommendation for this problem was to make sure you weren't using a proxy server & to enable cookies.

When all else fails you can bookmark/favourite the URL in the registration email & use that to access the site & be recognised.

Bruce's advice is good. That should solve the problem. Make sure you don't hit the logout button when you leave the site, that will delete the cookie too.

I think there are some very witty and funny people at h2g2, not at all a gook sort of place. I think that there is something here for everyone - if you look around or ask you may find it.

Thanks everyone. I think I've cracked it. I had already discovered about cookies and my computer was set to receive all of them. I have now upgraded my browser to Internet Explorer 5, re-registered for what I hope will be for the last time. It will be the last time because if it fails again I just shan't bother again. So we will have to wait and see.
