Hi, I am a new user, and I registered, because I need some guidance to Holland.
I am a foreign student here, and I am surrounded with stupid people. My social life
is almost restricted to the use of the computer.

I'm always surprised to meet such kind of humourless primitive remarks here. See article h2g2 getting aggressive...no more comment.

Don't know if you got lost to some other country by now? I maybe could give you some tips if you'd like. Some details could be usefull: where are you staying? What do you study? Do you think dutch people are stupid in general or just the ones around you? Why do you think so? What are your interests? Why did you come to Holland in the first place?

I got a 1-year scholarship (the only available from my school) to the International Business School Breda, Hogeschool West-Brabant.
At the time I wrote this entry, I could not find my place at all. I have some Dutch team-members, but they are not very sympathetic, and the work together just makes it worse. Cultural difference? Maybe (I'm Hungarian). To be honest, only those girls could get into the real Dutch life, who have a Dutch boyfriend. However, as I am engaged, this possibility is closed for me...
I could need some tips, of course. I must add that I don't get money from home, and i can work only 10 hours a week - so the travelling costs are very limited for me.

Hi!
You should switch to another region!
Just try a weekend anywhere else - Düsseldorf, Cologne, Paris, Rome, London, somewhere in any other region.
Is there any reason that you have to stay where you are?
Look for people who really think what they say.
Where you're coming from?

It's always handy to stick to the major cities. Anywhere else and the inteligence level drops rapidly. Rotterdam and Amsterdam are the best places to be at. As a student the club scene is important, In rotterdam there are Holywood and Baja. The former is more if your into 16 year old girls and baja is if you like waitresses in bikinis. And how do I know all of this?
I LIVE HERE!!!!

My advice is to go to amsterdam and stay put.
(other advice)
Febo make economical and indigestible meals.
Dont try to get backstage at the "PARADISO" (without weapons)
IF you speak english, many uitzendbureaus are begging for english speakers for crap IT jobs.
They will train and pay you. - many friends can be made - and stuff found out at allocated smoking areas, in these types of employment. Over.

Hey, so many people replied, I'm deeply touched.
I work for an uitzendbureau, i'm cleaning - they pay OK.
We went last weekend to Amsterdam -it was amazing. We visited the place called Trance Buddha, and then we went to an after party to Heaven. I'm still a bit exhausted....
To do so, I had to find a French guy around here, who lives in Breda for 3 years, and is familiar with the surrounding. Without him, I would never dare to go alone anywhere in Amsterdam (it's nice to be a girl...).

Go alone anywhere you like in amsterdam. Crime is very low and violent crime even lower, but the red light area is full of direputable fellows many of whom are simply bad eggs, so keep hal an eye out there. At first glance the Dam might seem rather crazy but once you get to know it, its a very laid back and convivial place.I was once walking alone through the Vondel park in the small hours and chanced upon a girl doing the same, something which amazed me, as this is unthinkable in most cities.
