Couldn't one say though that utilitarian actions need to be measured relative to each other.

kill one person to save hundredssmiley - erm

plus, Mill's version usually emphasizes the old quote, "better to be socrates dissatisfied, than a fool satisfied," that they seek the greatest personal enlightenment and fulfillment of the greatest number with a minimization of suffering.(One could also add the side note of 'furthering man as a progressive being'). I would say fair morality mechanism for a large group of people, that is if you look for most moral option. Though I must say the world would be boring without the crazy antics of some poor megalomaniacs who falsely justify their actions with poor philosophic understanding.
