Here is a word I DO like a lot:
antepenultimate
It means something "last but two" (or last but three?) Anyway, the antepenultimate *thing* is the third *thing* when you count from the end up to the beginning.
So, in the word "lovingly" the first syllable is also the antepenultimate syllable. Here, of course, it is much easier just to speak of the first syllable. But with the word "hippopotamus" it makes sense to say that the main stress of the word is on the antepenultimate syllable...
