cataphatic (), a. Theol.
Defining God positively or by positive statements, opp. apophatic a.
apophatic (), a. Theol.
Applied to knowledge of God obtained by way of negation. Hence apophaticism, an
apophatic approach to knowledge of God.
Sometimes more generally used when trying to pick a place to eat for lunch, when we
end up at the same place because we've ruled out all of the other places.....the
apophatic approach to dining establishment selection. AKA: The process of
elimination. The cataphatic approach seldom surfaces with my particular lunch
buddies.
