Hi, I'd be willing to help someone with something like English usage, GuideML and all sorts of nice subbing things like that that are perfect for a pedant like me. I know I'm not exactly a long time veteran - make that a four-month veteran! But I'd really like to help, and I certainly need one thing more to do, and the EG is my passion. Please?

Okay so this isn't actually my forum or anything, but I'm here and I'm so proud of myself for getting up early that I don't think it will be minded.
Heya! Of course you can help! Everyone and anyone can help. Mikey will add you to the list when she's around. Don't forget to subscribe to this entry so you can see if anyone comes searching for a mentor.
Is anyone noticing that what with all of this we're getting more mentors than researchers? Maybe I'll take a mentor myself just to try it out

Thanks!
You get up early, I stay up late. Funny how this time zone thing works. And I *really* ought to be getting to bed...

Hello.... "My name is Ishmael"!! No. Actually its Rhynch but i do like that intro from H.Melville. I,m attempting to knock up a guide( Figuratively speaking) entry at the moment and i have searched and found no matches for this proposed entry. I have no idea of the correct grammar or punctuation, as i have never been taught this as i left school at 14, but i have read a lot of books since then and i just kind of copy their full stops and comma's(?)..(see). Would i be able to get you to look at it when i think its a the stage where i can do no more? Be prepared for a rough piece of writing, i try to get the spelling correct, but thats about as far as i can go as its a bit of a mystery to me after that. If you can help, that would be appreciated
. Cheers Rhynch

Hello Rhynch; I'd be happy to help!
I like to think of myself as one of the sticklers for grammar, spelling and punctuation, so you've come to the right place.
Just drop me a line when you think you're ready, and I'll have a look at it.
BTW, aside from the fact that whenever 'I' is used, it should be capitalised, your grammmar's ok - I've certainly seen worse!
May I ask if you're from the UK or elsewhere? All the stuff we write here has to be using UK conventions since this is a British site. Don't worry about that, though - I can make sure that's ok for you if you don't quite get it.
Hi there, rhynch!

Hello EMR
I,m Australian and many people over the years have said..."You just don't get it do you?" So i would welcome any and all help. That said, I(<
) would think that our conventions are fairly close and apart from your fascination with Neighbours most Brits i've met seem normal to me!
. To be honest though, i'm as nervous as a worm at a fishing competition. I have my document in Word at the moment and work on it when time allows. I won't go into the minutiae of it here, but i will drop into see you soon. Thank you for your offer of assistance. Cheers Rhynch

Hello Mikey
It is about drowning or to be more specific, about how to avoid drowning at Australian beaches. Which is becoming an increasing problem here with more and more international visitors hitting the beaches and sadly dying for no other reason than sheer ignorance of beach conditions here(and it would also apply to most beaches where there is board ridable surf). If this is deemed unsuitable for entry, well at the very least it will give me some experience in how to write and what to write about here at h2g2. Just as an aside..2 weeks ago in my neck of the woods a English tourist waved happily away at two elderly swimmers waving at her from the surf.To her horror she found out minutes later that they were in fact drowning not waving, sadly the elderly lady from Holland (visiting her brother) died and her brother too.So thats what got me thinking it might be a good thing to let people know some basics about surviving a trip into the surf. cheers Rhynch

I think that's a great idea for an entry, Rhynch! Here at h2g2 we especially like practical entries - but anything goes, as long as it follows the <./>writing-guidelines</.>.
I'm actually American, though I'm also a Canadian citizen. However, I have such a fascination with Britain (one might call it Anglophilia) that I have often been able to pass as a native of the country. It's a habit with teachers at my school - though I usually confess that I'm not English at all as soon as they ask me where I'm from.
