A Conversation for Talking Point: Four-letter Words
Comedic Use Of Swearing

Can't believe this hasn't come up already - the comedic uses of swearing, as in Hugh Grant's opening tirade in Four Weddings And A Funeral. Also, Derek and Clive attacked this way back, in the Seventies I think, when it was considered far worse than it is now. The conversation, I seem to recall, went something like this...
Derek: "He's a f***ing c**t."
Clive: "What a f***ing c**t."
Derek: "And then he ."
Clive: "The f***ing c**t."
etc. etc.
And then, of course, there's Billy Connolly...although he does seem to have calmed down a bit in recent years.
These are FUNNY, dammit! Sometimes, I have to admit, it IS big and it IS clever.

i think it is sometimes big & clever to swear. And it cannot be disputed that it can sometimes be hilarious.
and if people think it's offensive then they are just too uptight & need to lighten up..colourful language is here to stay..
