Good entry smiley - ok

One small thing on first read through

"Former US president, Ronald and his wife Nancy Reagan"

Sounds better "Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy

Just one quick point.

You mention about keeping the ears clean and clear of stuff.

It might be worth a mention that baby wipes are exceptionally good at this. They're not at all harmful to dogs, you don't end up with water own the dogs ears and also you can clean the flap of the ear at the same time.

Hi Beth,

I love these little dogs - would love one myself smiley - smiley.

Good entry, I like it. The only thing I'd say would be that your use of the word 'Cavie' is a bit confusing, especially when it's paired with 'KC' when you're discussing the differences between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the King Charles Spaniel.

It becomes even more confusing when you remember that guinea pigs are also known as cavies smiley - winkeye

And a couple of typos/nitpicks:

Small spaniels have been popular in Britain for centuries and thought to have been => Small spaniels have been popular in Britain for centuries and are thought to have been

rendering it with varying degrees of blindness => resulting in varying degrees of blindness

I wonder if anyone's ever tested the law that says you can take them into the Houses of Parliament?!

Thanks magwitch, Vicki Virago and LbC for coming in so quickly!

I've been in and corrected typos and word order stuff. And thank you Vicki V for the baby wipes tip, that's in as a footnote. I've taken out all the 'Cavies', replacing them with 'Cavaliers' - it does seem to read better that way - a bit less twee. smiley - winkeye

I also looked into the 'Cavaliers allowed into Parliament' issue and found some interesting results...

Nice Entry on one of my favourite breeds of dog Beth smiley - smiley

I used to look after one, called Charlie, while his owners were on holiday. He got on with my dog and cats no problem. But another, Sally, that I was offered after my old cross/Labrador died, went mad chasing birds, and I had a budgie at the time, Sally was worse than the cats, for that and other reasons I decided not to have her.

Maybe say something like - the majority of Cavaliers get on with all family members and pets, as not all of them will.

Hope this one gets a blob when/if it gets to the Front Page smiley - smiley

These small spaniels (the largest of the Toy breed) -> These small spaniels (the largest of the Toy breeds)

although the Cav might announce strangers -> although the Cavalier might announce strangers

Cavies were very common -> Cavaliers were very common

Very good, I liked this. The one my mum owned didn't seem to fit any of these characteristics, but bearing in mind she was sold once she was too old to breed KC-registered puppies it's likely she wasn't socialised at all but left to pump out puppies all the time. smiley - sadface

Hi all,
thanks for the latest tips and advice. Yes Emmily - your anecdote reminded me how dangerous it can be to generalise! I've made the adjustments suggested (ta Eco) and am enjoying hearing about your personal experiences of these little dogs. BigAl - any tips or additional info will be much appreciated.

You might look into thumbprints: some of them have quite distinct dark thumbprints in the middle of their foreheads. Apart from that, they are lovely dogs (even if the one I knew ate all my sweeties) lovely dogs, lovely entry, what more should I say? smiley - cheers

Thanks for the 'thumbprint' advice Not Him, I just checked the Kennel Club - and yes - it's a 'unique characteristic of the breed' in Blenheims.

Er can't believe I missed out 'Reagan' oops. It's back now. smiley - blush

Yes they're pretty sweet dogs - just such a shame they're so susceptible to illness. Does anyone have any experiences of KCCs getting ill (although of course I hope they haven't)?

The one I knew - it was my grandparents' dog - didn't bark, except for once, when she was so surprised she wet herselfsmiley - laugh

More on the sweetie raid: this was at christmas, and she (the dog) managed to open both the cupboard door and the bag to snaffle all of my sweets. Clever, but...

My mum's dog kept being incontinent, and in the end the vet recommended a hysterectomy (which my mother refused as she's miss her camping holiday smiley - cross) she dies of something unrelated, and I'm not sure that's a CKCS problem, or just a problem because she had so many litters.
