I feel that the original NES deserves some recognition. The best years of my life were spent in front of this particular idiot box. True, video graphics have come a long way over the years, but I have yet to find games on modern systems that challenge me in the way original NES games did. Just to name a few of my favorite titles:

The original Super Mario Bros. trilogy

Duck Hunt (well, it came with Super Mario. Unless you got the Mario that came with World Class Track Meet. Or the stand alone Mario.)

The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Megaman 2 (My fav in the whole series)

Adventures of Lolo (After all these years, I still can't get that music out of my head)

Ice Climber (greatest 2 player mode ever - and I'm talking the version with the little abominable snowmen and the polar bear, not the version with the penguins)

Ikari Warriors (2nd greatest 2 player mode ever)

Contra

The first Final Fantasy (kind of an oxymoron, I know)

Friday the 13th

A Nightmare on Elm Street (the only game I've ever played on NES that supports up to 4 players!)

City Connection

Popeye

Lode Runner

Excitebike

Metal Gear

Metroid

The Goonies I & II (but especially I)

Ducktales I & II (see above)

Castlevania

Maniac Mansion

Mappy

Mad Max (such an irritating game until you figure out what to do)

Poo-yan (has anybody else ever seen this awesome game?)

and the grand master of them all:
Mike Tyson's Punchout!

And there you have it, the makings of one sad - but fun - childhood in front of the video screen

Alas, before my time. I am however slowly but surely building up my collection. I'll make a note of these games as "good ones to get"...

You are however not alone. Many people have grown up with the NES, and now with the virtual console, new generation can rediscover the magic!

Feel free to write some entries on any or all of the games you've listed - I'll be happy to help!smiley - biggrin
