Collective Nouns

Collective nouns are used to describe a collection of people or items viewed as a unit.

Generally Collective Nouns are used with singular verbs e.g. A Herd of Antelope.

However, in British usage, the plural is sometimes used, generally when refering to a collection of individuals rather than a group being classed as a unit. Single and plural cannot be used together.
