Poetry

1 Conversation

What exactly is poetry? You will find many definitions. Webster's defines it as: "language of imagination expressed in in verse; metrical composition". But poetry is so much more than that. The fact is, not even all poetry is in verse. Free-verse poetry sometimes looks more like random words on the page or scattered bits of images, prose poetry looks even less like poetry than it does prose. The main quality pocessed by all poetry is this: it is created by poets. The definition of a "poet" is, in my own words: someone who can lock themselves away from everything even slightly resembling reality, think, imagine, and still write beautiful words that "flow" and "speak" directly to other people's souls. Poetry is an art.
