Why do people call Britian 'The mother land' and Germany as 'The father land'

Who knows. Most nations call their homeland "the Mother Land", including Russia, France, Hungary, Romania...the list goes on. The Amerian Indians view the Earth as a "mother" as well as many other cultures.
Maybe Germans just like being different.
