Hi,
I recently had the crazy idea of trying to find out what the Kricket warship in "Life, The Universe, and Everything" actually sounds like. To do this, I'm trying to get 100,000 people to record themselves saying "wop" and send it to me. I then plan to combine all these into one sound.
So I'm looking for people to contribute. All I need is a recording of you saying "wop" with maybe 4 seconds of silence before and after. Then send it to [email protected]. You can check out the progress at http://100000wops.googlepages.com

Nice one RF. Don't you remember the trouble we went to to be allowed to get the word "wop" past the profanity filter? 25,000 of us marched on Hootoo Towers with banners reading "Doo-Wop Is Not A Crime" and "A-Wop-Bop-A-Loo-Bop-A-Lop-Bam-Boom". Seventeen of us even embarked on a dirty protest. It didn't make any difference, but it's a hobby. And now you come along and abuse it? Pah.

Does DNR specify that it has to be the "WOPs" of 100,000 different people?
I mean why not sample your very own wop 100,000 times?
If you fear the wops will be too similar, then record then with an old analogue device that will ensure a lack of uniformity.
Additionally 100,000 wops will still give no sense of the actual sound unless you play them through 100,000 speakers simultaneously. At least that is my concern.
Still it is a brilliant idea and one that deserves participation from all us HooToo-philes. I hope it works out!

Okeydokey, sorry there. I see you've actually addressed the matter of different people versus one person with oversampling. Just goes to show how quick I am to an opinion without doing the proper research.
I am still worried about sampling it through less than 100,000 speakers though. At least give it a healthy dose of volume at playback
