Isle of Barra & Harris Beaches

2 Conversations

I have recently been traveling around the Western Isles in Scotland. If you have never been here, then go. The beaches up here are stupendous. Admittedly you may only get 7 really sunny days a year when the temperature rises to 0 but they are worth it!!!! The best beaches are to be found on the islands of Barra and Harris. Here you will get beaches up to about 3 miles long of the whitest sand you could only dream about. As well as that more often than not you will be the only person standing on these beaches for as far as the eye can see, this also means that litter is an unknown word. Barra even has a plane link which also lands on the flat white sand of the Cockle Strand beach. This is a sight you would not believe with the Land Rover (Fire Engine) running out from the tiny airport to scare the seagulls from the runway prior to the even smaller plane landing. You can fly to the airstrip from Glasgow, Inverness and Isle of Benbecula. Basically what i'm trying to say is this is for sure the best and most interesting beach in the world. Andrew
