Sorry for being obstreperous, here, if that's what it is, and I certainly don't disagree with the idea that good writing is better than excellent listmaking, but I actually quite liked the bullets in this case - the formatted conciseness is a nice touch...

Thanks Hypo... And congrats on the promo!
I get the hint, here, fellas... I take my chances on which desk to which any submissions get shuffled off, and thus what the finished article looks like. Well.. I guess that's fair... and if anyone wants to look at the original, from what I hear those pages are preserved? Or am I off base here?

We have desks?
You're correct in thinking the original lives on in your user pages after an entry becomes "approved". Because it does.

Okay.. thanks...
And I've made a Decision.. (Please don't take this as any kind of affront to your advice, as I do value it hightly, DT) I'm gonna go with my instincts and leave the bullets. Otherwise it just doesn't seem to me to have any continuity.
Final adjustments (well, final until/unless I decide to make more ) should be made within the next hour or so (I hope). Thanks to everyone who offered advice and managed to find the errors of my ways.

Also note that the original and modified versions now occupy opposite pages, so that the submitted article will be the one which was modified via Mark Twain... and that I've added a summary (of sorts) which hopefully will address GB's concerns over it being 'too american' as well.

Ahem!
I would certainly never accuse another researcher of being "too American." I couldn't do it without the risk of hypocrisy, either. A quick glance at my user page list will reveal all kinds of Americentric writings: "Samuel Clemens," "American Football," "Los Angeles, California," "Inland Empire, California," "Spring Break,"....
And if you read my latest journal entry, you'll see that I told people who complain about articles that are too American (British euphemism coming) to sod off. Keep writing this stuff, Anonymouse, the Guide needs it.

Unfortunately the Subed who got hold of it rejected it on just that basis..."Too American"... (Well, that and the humanoid reference, but that was just an aside which could easily have been edited out.) *sigh* ... When (if?) things slow down a bit (hopefully after the first of the year) I'm going to try to find time to rework it a bit and re-submit.

....and of course Mark Moxam has the final say in what gets accepted/rejected.
Commiserations Mouse. You may want to add the rejection to my rejections slip list. I haven't posted any new ones for a while.

Hmmm.. I thought I sent that in a while ago... I'll dig it up again, if not.

Disgusting! And yet such articles as my Los Angeles piece, Samuel Clemens piece, and JimiX's wonderful storehouse of Pennsylvanian folklore are making it into the guide. Does anyone else detect a bit of hypocrisy?

*EEPS!* Easy, GB.. I don't wanna start a war here.
As for the rejection slip, it's in a forum I ran across a while ago, and promptly forgot which one. (Could it be dangling from the rejection slips page? I think it might be, since iirc, I found it whilst reading the post last week.)

Rents a house as far away from North America as possible.
C'mon guys, surely Denver could have afforded someone younger than Neil Diamond, oh no, somewhere has hired Barry Manilow, where is my beer fridge

No worries, Nony...I read the rejection letter where you posted it, and there's more to it than just being "too American." So I'll be putting my guns away.

*nods* ... And finally I've gotten round to yet another revision and re-submitted. If ya get time, can ya give it a once-over and tell me what ya think?

I liked it before, and I like it still. Looks like you finally settled on a good format, it looks much better than I remember (do I remember? ) I think all the disclaimers are completely unnecessary, but then, I'm just a lowly researcher.

*grins* Thanks for looking... I would hope they are, as well, but I imagine if the next sub-ed that gets hold of it thinks the same, it's a small matter for them to just make them all disappear.
Key: Complain about this post
