I gotta agree. There are three very good entries on the history of Ska on H2G2, and if you pick up the CD Step It Up, The Ska Parade, You'll find a very nice history.
And the whole Punk thing is endlessly debatable. Some say that the US had Punk music, but no Punk style. Iggy and Stooges certainly qualify as punk, and they preceded punk in the UK.
