neither Pratchett's nor Adams' work precludes that of the other. the Discworld may be a part of the universe far removed from the spacelanes hitchhikers normally travel, but that doesn't mean it can't be part of the same universe. As pratchett says, in an infinite universe, everything has to exist somewhere.
