I wrote this a guide for Scouts in 2005, and then never did much with it.

Actually looking at it again I realise it's actually fairly useful, and maybe it should be an official help page for scouts.

Any thoughts people?

Other than the fact that this is the longest delay in history between creating entry and entering it into PR. Nearly 7 years.

Alex has updated this page recently I believe?

It has a succinct account of the process - do you think it misses any salient points Dr Zen?

You know, I'm not sure this is Edited Guide material (although it's certainly now been brought to the scouts' attention) as it may be liable to change in line with BBC/h2g2 policies (scouts are now asked to make 3 picks, rather than 2, things like that) and is only relevant to a relatively small section of the population - much as an entry on how to write for the Edited Guide might not be included in it. It can all get a bit meta.


It does have a few extra useful links, for example, over Alex's page, (Writing Guidelines, ...) and examples of good deflections to other areas including the Underguide.

Well true. I really entered it to bring it to the Scouts attention. I think actually I should have submitted it to the Writing Workshop..

The title on this needs changing. When I first saw this, I assumed it was an entry about Baden-Powell's Boy Scouts. It may be that I made the wrong connection so easily because I work as a volunteer with one of my local Scout troops, but anybody casually browsing hootoo is likely to make the same mistake.

from

to something like

A Brief Guide for H2G2 Scouts
