A Conversation for Alignment in Dungeons & Dragons

Quite a few role-playing systems don't use alignment at all. Pendragon rates characters personality traits on a 01-20 scale so a character could be rated as Honest 07 and Decietful 13. One result is that a character could be generally "good" but have a vengeful or cruel streak. Another system, Heroquest, doesn't use alignment at all. Religion plays a similar role. Worshippers of the goddess of healing tend to be pacifist goody goodys, not so worshippers of the god of death and war. To most humans trolls are evil, to trolls adventurer is another word for thief.

Actually though it doesn't seem like the same thing, I would consider those to also be alignment systems, at least some of them. You should go the the PR thread.
